With the four Xcess (XXXX) Roberto Ricci surpassed himself. Already the XXX have surpassed any performance expectations, positioning always between 1st or 2nd position on most of the magazines test issues around the globe. The XXXX are about to present a new improved level.
Features:
The XXXX is constructed in vacuum lamination technology which is a typical feature of the full custom made boards and RRD is still one of the few brands in the world to keep this technology (longer to produce and most expensive) on the hi-level kiteboards. In this process a special mix of fibers are laminated under vacuum with the core. The high pressure eliminates remaining epoxy resin and you get very light and durable kiteboards. With this construction you can get very good influence on the flex characteristic of the board.
The result of the new dynamic flex tips is a fantastic combination of a stiffer middle board that speeds up immediately when you want to get going and flexes and edges when you press hard on your back foot. So once again the riding characteristics could be improved. You find better edging when powered up, better turning potential and more control over heavy chops. The XXXX won't set the limits while you improve your riding level!
The new ergo heel ABS pre-bent pads, are delivered with each board, allowing a perfect match of footstrap and pad placement when changing position on the deck. A new re-designed Kite Fin line (KF) by Maui Fin Co. takes into account the thin profile that RRD had last year, with the improvement of making rounded outline edges that increase the 'sliding' possibilities and are less dangerous during sailing in case of accidents.
RRD test team results:
The new XXXX feel very similar to the XXX, except that they hold more wind and feel more manouverable. Fast and precise, they set the perfect trak on the water, and the flow off the tips is clean and smooth ... The middle stiffness helps to plane fast and get a great kick when bending the board in the middle before the jumps.
Depending on the size we have been using, manouverability was improving but the speed and upwind potential was never coming less. In the waves we have found some great potential to ride these boards when conditions where choppy and small. The combination of smooth riding and manouverability has allowed us to make some sick moves in the surf. A new feature that increases even further the range of use of this great sticks!
